Part of farming is controlling and handling animals; and two of the basic tools for doing that are the halter and lead rope. Well, today Pa Mac talks to you about his favorite farm tool (which is a combination of the halter and lead rope) the rope halter—a completely adjustable one-size-fits-all halter.

The rope halter is helpful on the small farm or homestead in those situations where livestock are balky and need a little more control. The downside of the typical leather or nylon halter is that it’s so comfortable for the animal that if they’re the least inclined to resist being handled (or trailered or led where they don’t want to go) the halter makes it easier for them to pull back and resist your efforts to lead or control them. But a well-made rope halter tends to take the “comfort” out of the situation.

A rope halter can be made with any diameter rope as long as it’s a twisted style of rope of three strands. It can be used on young or mature cattle, horses, mules, donkeys, goats, sheep, alpacas, or llamas.
