Türkiye Started EURO 2024 with a Win over Georgia

The National Football Team made an impressive start to the tournament by defeating Georgia 3-1 at BVB Dortmund Stadium in its first match in Group F of the 2024 European Football Championship (EURO 2024). The goals of the Crescent-Star team were scored by Mert Müldür in the 25th minute, Arda Güler in the 65th minute and Kerem Aktürkoğlu in the extra time. Georgia's only goal came from Georges Mikautadze in the 32nd minute.

First Half of the Match

Turkey started the match quickly and found its first dangerous position with Kaan Ayhan's header from the corner taken by Hakan Çalhanoğlu in the 6th minute, but the ball narrowly went out. In the 10th minute, Kenan Yıldız received the ball on the left diagonal of the penalty area and passed it to Kaan Ayhan, who was in the penalty arc, and Kaan's hard shot hit the post.

Turkey's Superiority in the Second Half

In the 57th minute of the second half, goalkeeper Mamardashvili made a successful save from the free kick taken by Hakan Çalhanoğlu. In the 65th minute, Kaan Ayhan intervened and won the ball, but it remained in front of Arda Güler. Arda put Turkey ahead again by making a great shot from the right diagonal outside the penalty area to the far corner: 2-1.

Georgia missed the chance to draw in the 66th minute. Kochorashvili's shot passed Samet Akaydin and returned to the field of play via the crossbar. In the 87th minute, Yusuf Yazıcı's header in the penalty area was diverted by goalkeeper Mamardashvili for a corner.

Overtime and Last Goal

Georgia developed dangerous attacks in extra time. 90+3. In the minute Kvaratskhelia sent the ball to the penalty area, Mikautadze's shot went out from the side. 90+6. In the minute Kvaratskhelia's free kick, the ball hit the side post and returned to the field of play.

90+7. In the corner kick taken by Georgia in the minute, the ball was deflected by goalkeeper Mert Günok and ended up in front of Altunashvili outside the penalty area. Kerem Aktürkoğlu, who won the ball with the intervention of Orkun Kökçü, advanced to the opponent's penalty area with a quick counter attack and sent it into the empty goal: 3-1.
