3/22/2019 - Spring of 2019 was met with nasty flooding all across the Midwest, and the Mississippi River was certainly no exception. As to be expected with hefty flooding, Davenport, Iowa was affected, as the water rose above 18 feet, covering some sections of river drive and covering a large section of Canadian Pacific's Davenport Subdivision in water. Similar to fall of 2018, more than 1,000 feet of the mainline was or was nearly completely submerged in water. And just like last year, CP just kept on chuggin'.
I captured two trains coming through the floodwaters today: the southbound BN Rock running as lite engines and the southbound BN Clinton local freight train. Watching trains come through rail-high waters is just as visually jarring as last time, especially BN Clinton as it actually picked up speed as it went through the water as opposed to slowing down like the trains last year. Please check below for more information*, and enjoy the video!

Time-stamps:

(0:27) - A CP highrailer plows through the water, inspecting the height of the water

(1:11) - BNSF Rock Island Local, lite engines:
1. BNSF GP50 #3165
2. BNSF GP39-3 #2568

(3:19) - BNSF Clinton Local
1. BNSF GP38-2 #2351 (H1)
2. HLCX GP38-2 #1039

*Both BNSF trains were instructed by the track foreman to cross the water at restricted speed, similar to last year. The foremen (as seen in the beginning of the video) checked the height of the water to ensure that the trains were okay to cross. Unlike last year however, the trains were NOT required to stop and dry the traction motors after crossing. In addition, only the engines were required to cross at restricted speed. After the engines were clear, the train could gain speed with the payload still in the water. This is best demonstrated with BN Clinton as BN Rock was just lite engines anyway.
