This is the ALDERSHADOW AU!

So like, when I was reading A Vision of Shadows, when Bramblestar told Alderpaw there was a sign he was meant to be a medicine cat, I immediately got the impression that he was, in fact, LYING- at the he WAS just embarassed he was terrible at being a warrior because he has anxiety. I get the feeling Bramblestar isnt a very good dad- hes kind of neglectful towards alderheart, I think, and he kind of immediately stopped caring about the three as soon as he found out he wasn't their biological father, even though he raised them. He's CERTAINLY not as bad as I make him out to be in this video- he's no crowfeather. but hey, those are the lyrics, and I don't think Bramblestar is very interesting as a character at this point anyway. So, for this au, I am going to push his character a little and make him meaner becauser i think it helps to give alderheart stronger motivation and characterization.

In any case, as I continued reading AVOS, I wondered, why would the authors want a third medicine cat in thunderclan? There must be a reason, right? and then littlecloud started to get sick, and die, and had no apprentice. And then alderpaw picked up a couple of kits from a sewer drain, and he immediately felt a strong paternal connection to them. He's like, a fifteen year old boy at this point, he's young, still an apprentice, but these are little babies all alone in the world and absolutely no one seems to care about them. When rowanstar suggested taking one of the kits, and alderpaw strongly objected, I thought, this is it! this is why they made a third medicine cat in thunderclan! Alderpaw is going to trade himself for Violetkit, and go to shadowclan to replace Littlecloud.

And then he didn't. and I have no idea why they felt the need to write a third medicine cat.

I love violetshine's canon story. I actually love avos and really dont want to change it really at all.

But, the fun of aus like this is I can like canon AND my au. I can have both.

So! In this au, and this video, alderpaw is grief stricken after the death of his grandmother sandstorm, the only person he felt truly loved him. When Rowanstar and Bramblestar decide tosplit up twigkit and violetkit at the gathering, Alderpaw feels an uncharacteristic surge of courage, and he is unable to watch something he truly believes to be an amoral, despicable and inhumane act take place. He offers himself to Shadowclan. Take me instead, he says. Shadowclan needs a trained medicine cat far more than a kitten who MIGHT be a part of a prophecy.

Rowanstar agrees. Bramblestar agrees. Alderpaw joins Shadowclan.

Littlecloud passes away and Alderpaw goes to the moonpool. Littlecloud isn't here to give him a name as a full medicine cat of Shadowclan- Leafpool and Jayfeather both want to name him, but he refuses. They aren't his mentors anymore. They tell him they want him to come back home, but he knows if he leaves, Rowanstar will just take twigkit or violetkit. He knows that Shadowclan needs a medicine cat, and that his father let him leave because he doesn't want him, anyway. He has to stay.

He names himself Aldershadow. dundundun!
