Notes from Allison about this arrangement:
Though “Gusty Garden Galaxy” is often credited as the takeaway title of “Super Mario Galaxy,” I always felt a kinship with “Comet Observatory.” It’s a constant companion as we play through the game, and as the story progresses, the instrumentation subtly changes into something more grandiose. In my own arrangement, I wanted to include several musical styles to capture that feeling of evolution from the original track. I made sure to give each instrument as many interesting and integral melodies as I could, including a lovely tuba solo during the Bossa nova section. Counter-rhythms are also a large part of my arranging, and they make a grand appearance for the final section of the piece. Most importantly, I wanted a sense of a journey—a kind of narrative that spans the entire arrangement and feels connected overall.
