Debut LP "Are You Experienced" 5/12/67.Ed Chalpin(Jimi's previous manager for "PPX Industries Rec Co.")never approached as Jimi climbed to fame.By spring '67 he started the dispute with Jimi and his management for violating "PPX Industries" contract(Jimi also jammed with "Knight and the Squires" in a session that summer causing more issues).R & B producer Juggy Murray("Sue Rec Co.")and Chas Chandler making $ off of Hendrix while Chalpin was not, even though JIMMY Hendrix was still under "PPX Industries" contract.Chalpin agreed to release '65 and '67 tapes of Hendrix with the "Squires" called "Get That Feeling"(front cover only showing Jimi which was an insult to the rest of the Knights)in Dec '67 now up against Jimi's 2nd LP with "Reprise" label "Axis:Bold As Love" 12/1/67.Capitol then releases 2nd LP "Flashing" in '68 which features tapes of Jimi(owned by Chalpin now is making $)with "Curtis Knight & the Squires".Jimi's manager Michael Jeffery and Chas Chandler furious that 2 rec co. making $ on Jimi and not marketing his contribution to the recordings correctly.July '68 Chalpin and "Capitol" reach an agreement to release the next LP under the "Jimi Hendrix Experience" after Jimi finishes his double disc LP for "Reprise" "Electric Ladyland"(10/16/68).Nashville R&B session bassist Billy Cox(Jimi's army friend)has not seen or heard from Jimi since mid '60's when Jimi moved to NY(when Jimi was a "Chitlin Circuit" R&B sideman for "Joey Dee"+"Little Richard").Billy never knew how popular Jimi was until Billy remembering a friend coming to his house with "Experience's" 1st LP saying "Look at this." "This is your buddy here." Billy said, "I don't know that guy"(laughs).Billy said, "He lost alot of weight his hair was long" and I said, "no, that's not the guy that I knew."Billy's friend said, "put the record on."Billy said, "That's him!" "That's him!"Jimi tried contacting Billy on "Mr Wrights TV Repair Shop" phone(the only way they kept in touch, Jimi and Billy did not have phones too handy in those days.).Billy received a phone call from Jimi's office about Jimi looking for a new bassist.Billy met Jimi@an "Experience" show in Memphis April '69 about joining Jimi's new project as the "Experience" was falling apart by June '69.Billy accepted, closing his music publishing co. in Nashville, moving to NY.Jimi said to Billy, "Look we'll work together and come up with some great songs.""Smash Hits"(UK 4/12/68/US 7/30/69)but Hendrix felt the pressure from record co. for a new LP.Jimi had no apartment, living in a hotel in NY writing new material on a little practice amp all day/night.Summer '69 Jimi was rejuvenated, formed "Gypsy Sun & Rainbows" or "Band of Gypsys" where Billy and Jimi rehearsed material@"Record Plant" studios, NY, and@"Woodstock" retreat in Shokan NY for the 8/18/69 show(after Jimi completed his obligations with the "Experience").The country atmosphere of NY was a fresh start/new music beginning for a Jimi era.No city distractions, Jimi, serious and concentrated there. The new group played some clubs in NY like "Scene", and "Salvation".1st real gig was "Woodstock" with the new group, and PERFORMED IN FRONT OF 200,000 people!Jimi's new group broke up in Sept '69 and at his own personal cost canceled some US concerts that month as he felt the band was not ready/working out.Oct-Dec '69 Billy Cox+Buddy Miles decided to help Jimi deliver next LP to Capital/PPX.None of the recording's from the first 2 shows(New Year's Eve '69)were picked to be on the new LP."Stop" written by Jerry Ragovoy, Mort Shuman.Per Buddy Miles it was based off of Howard Tate's version. An uptown rhythm and blues song.Per Buddy the part he liked about BOG was taken a song like "Stop" and dissecting it into their own.Buddy and Billy loved playing with who they described as the greatest guitar player of the time.Buddy and Billy liked being in the center of attention with Jimi(note:the footage shown in my video was BOG playing "Stop" from the 3rd show out of the "Fillmore" shows 1/1/70.It was also borrowed from the official boxset release in 2019)."Jimi Hendrix was funny and free spirited and a good, good person. We were almost brothers. If he needed a favor, I'd gladly doit for himi and vice versa. We shared that friendship" said Billy.
