My name is Ryan Ketchum. I'm from Wauzhushk Onigum Nation located in Kenora, Ontario. I was born and raised in Kenora Ontario. I decided to move to Winnipeg for better opportunities in 2009. In 2015, I decided to attend post-secondary school. I attended a year trying several different prospects. Languages and film included. Eventually, I landed in the physics department after wanting something to challenge myself. I was two thirds of the way through before decided it wasn't entirely for me. I took a year off school to change majors. I applied at the University of Manitoba, and was accepted in their engineering program for indigenous students. The program there called the Engineering Access Program took me in. I really enjoyed this material and degree, so I continued forward and was accepted into the Department of Electrical Engineering with a focus in Engineering Physics as per my time at the University of Winnipeg. I took a lot of time to find my many hobbies, including film, sports, and the sciences as a whole. Many challenges came up during my time here at the University of Manitoba. Family losses, covid, and strikes. included. I learned a lot about myself during my time here and I'm very appreciative of the opportunities I've had since being here. This includes a summer of research at the University of Manitoba under Dr. Athula Rajapakse researching transmission lines. I also had a summer doing project management in Ottawa. I'm very fond of the friends I've gained since being here and the people I've helped further their degrees during their time here.
