Sallie Ward was born into the lap of luxury and became the social grand dame of Louisville, Kentucky. She was beautiful, and was from a famously and fabulously wealthy family. She often set the fashion of the day by what she wore and did; and occasionally, she turned social convention on its ear.

Living from 1827-1896, she was known worldwide as a 19th century American princess.
