The star knot, very decorative but quite a tricky knot to tie. I have filmed a 4 pointed knot in stages and used different colours to make it easier to follow. I suggest you start with this particular knot and work up to the 8 point star knot which is the highest number that can be tied.
It is said 5 represents the 5 oceans but others say 7 for the 7 seas, but I have noticed 6 points is the most used, generally on bell ropes in pubs. The old Bosun who got me in to rope work really struggled with this but he was wonderful at splicing. I'm still not at ease with splicing but I never found the star knot hard to do. My advice is to just take it slowly.
