Concert: DEBACKER HÜBSCH JAVAID

You should remember these names: Marlies Debacker and Salim Javaid. The Belgian pianist and the saxophonist with Czech-Pakistani roots are two distinctive personalities of the young generation of improvised and new music in Cologne. In a trio they play with the tuba player Carl Ludwig Hübsch, initiator of numerous projects that present improvisation in many variations on a high level: Ensemble X, Duo Hübsch Minton, Hübsch Martel Zoubek and many more.

The music of the trio is interaction with precise listening. Seemingly diverse approaches are carried by a consistent playing that focuses on the smallest moment. Extended playing techniques, “normal sounds”, apparent banalities or even virtuosity find their place in this universe without prejudice. The form emerges by itself, held together by the rich aural treasure of the three protagonists.

This diversity has a system: as organizers and “house band” of the Cologne improvisation series “Plattform Nicht Dokumentierbarer Ereignisse” (Platform of Non-documentable Events), the three of them have been meeting for years with various representatives of abstract improvisation.
