In this troubleshooting video, you are guided through how to burn it in to get it ready for your first big BBQ.

Follow this simple how to burn in a Traeger initial firing tutorial on your Traeger wood fired grill. Make sure to perform the Traeger burn in process to remove manufacturing oils.

How to burn new Traeger in to get it ready for your first use:

1. Plug the grill into a grounded outlet.
2. Remove all the innards of the grill. i.e. The Traeger grill grate, Traeger grease pan or Traeger drip tray and the Traeger heat baffle.
3. Turn the switch ON and set the temperature setting to smoke keeping the lid open.
4. Look in the hopper at the auger that churns the pellets into the fire pot to make sure it’s turning.
5. Confirm that the draft induction fan is working by placing a hand over the fire pot to feel for heat, this means the hot rod is warming up. **Do not put hands inside these parts.**
6. Turn the setting to Shut Down Cycle and let the fan run for 10 minutes.
7. Fill the hopper with Traeger hardwood pellets.
8. Turn the grill back ON and set the temperature gauge to high and let the auger churn wood pellets into the fire pot with the lid open, this will charge the auger.
9. Turn the temperature controller to Shut Down mode and let the fan run for 10 minutes to cool off. You’ve now charged the auger.
10. Open the lid and turn the grill back ON. Set the temperature setting to Smoke and watch for smoke to billow. Once it starts smoking, replace all the internal grill parts as it’s smoking. When you hear the jet engine sound whirring from within the grill. you have a flame in your fire pot.
11. Close the grill and turn the temperature controller to High and let the Traeger run for 45 minutes.
12. After 45 minutes, you’re ready to load the grill up with your favorite food and start cooking.
