The Broadcasting Centre was opened in the 1950s to control transmissions of TV and radio signals to a central area of Europe. As well as control of broadcasting through the transmitters, the centre was equipped with emergency broadcasting studios and diesel generators in case of a power outage.
The facility was gradually used less and less as shortwave and medium wave transmissions were phased out, leaving only the FM and DAB transmissions still in use.
