A curiosity, due to the polymers of its composition, its recycling is quite difficult.

The sponge is nothing more than solid foam. It is the result of a chemical reaction of polyurethane with other agents.

For the manufacture of the sponge, the liquid with all the chemical components is poured into a tank, composed of a conveyor belt that moves.

Cover films help to contain the liquid.

As you advance, the polyurethane continues to expand its shape, until it reaches its final size.

The film is still collected to be reused. The cuts are made in blocks to facilitate their storage.

In a carousel system, blocks are cut horizontally to the thickness of the dishwashing sponge.

The next step is to add the green side of the sponge. Remembering that it is more abrasive than yellow.

A set of rollers presses the green blanket to the yellow one. The equipment is adjusted to the temperature and pressure sufficient for this union to occur.

The operator cuts the sponge to the desired size. An electric cutter does the cutting to length. This equipment discards the leftovers on the sides, giving the finish.

In the last cut, the sponge comes out in its final measure.

Nearing the end, sponges are bagged five by five in this factory.
