You all must have heard the name of #Kurukshetra in Haryana. This is the place where the fierce battle of Mahabharata took place. Shri Krishna preached the Gita to Arjuna in Kurukshetra itself, the #Mahabharata war took place between the #Kauravas and the #Pandavas, in which crores of warriors from both sides were killed. This was the most gruesome war in the world. There had never been such a war before, nor is there any possibility of such a war ever happening in the future. The land of Kurukshetra was chosen by Lord Shri #Krishna for the war of Mahabharata, Kurukshetra is also a holy place where performing Shraddha is considered very sacred in Indian rites. Kurukshetra is on the pages of history not only because of Mahabharata, but it is also famous because of many historical events, 'Brahma Sarovar' is a lake situated in Kurukshetra. Brahma Sarovar still remains a center of attraction due to its history and mythology. #BrahmaSarovar as the name suggests is associated with Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe. Taking a dip in the sacred waters of the lake during a solar eclipse is considered equivalent to performing thousands of #Ashwamedha Yagyas. According to local experts, it was carved by King Kuru, the ancestor of the Kauravas and Pandavas. According to local belief, #Yudhishthir had built a tower in the middle of the lake as a symbol of his victory in the #Mahabharata war. There is also an ancient #Draupadi well in the same island complex. There is a temple of Lord Shiva on the northern bank of the lake, which is famous by the name of #Sarveshwar #Mahadev #Temple, this pond is 1800 feet long and 1400 feet wide. There is a lot of crowd here during solar eclipse and #GeetaJayanti. Although #Brahma #Sarovar can be visited at any time of the year, the ideal time to visit is during November and December, when #Geeta #Jayanti is celebrated here. This ceremony is celebrated with great pomp and joy. During this period a large number of tourists come here. Migratory birds come here in large numbers during Geeta Jayanti in November and at the time of lamp donation in December. Brahma Sarovar has been included in the list of 30 prestigious religious places by the Government of India under the Swachh Bharat Mission. This list includes 30 iconic religious places like #TajMahal, #GoldenTemple, #Tirupati #Balaji Temple and #Somnath Temple.
In October 2005, on the occasion of solar eclipse fair, more than 15 lakh devotees took a dip in this Brahma Sarovar of Kurukshetra and set a record. Former President of the country, #PratibhaDeviSinghPatil, on 8 February 2012, inaugurated the 206 feet high #NationalMemorial on Brahma Sarovar. The flag was hoisted. People from far away places had reached Brahma Sarovar to see this #flag
