36 hours to drive a RALLY car with ‪@rallyeacademie5885‬ : from learning how to brake on a rally to driving a 400 horsepower Mitsubishi race car on a circuit.

We spent two days in the south of France to go meet legend Eric Fabre at his rally circuit of Saint-Brès and learn everything we could on rally driving with him at ‪@rallyeacademie5885‬ . Eric has been France national champion and has coached over hundred pilots in the recent years (several won European National championships), and this week he coached Nick.

Breaking, accelerating, shifting gears and turning, Nick has to unlearn everything he knew or thought he knew about driving. You don’t drive a race car like you drive your everyday rig. Never thought breaking could be such a complicated and technical manoeuvre. Try, fail, do it again, fail again, succeed! And go on to the next turn!

Nick got lucky enough to try a 4x4 Subaru, a rear-wheel drive BMW and a front-wheel drive Renault at every stage of the practice. It started with pure theory training on the basic tricks a rally driver should apply, we then moved to field practice where nick completed again and again series of insane exercises. Breaking in straight line, breaking avoiding an obstacle, breaking while turning, with or without a handbreak. I told you, never thought breaking could be that complicated. It finished up with having the incredible luck of driving a race fitted Mitsubishi with 400 horsepower. A DREAM.

We are on a few weeks break on our world tour expedition while our overland vehicle, our Land Rover Defender is on a containership from South America to Australia. Returning to France for that time period to see friends and family this was just a short break and next week we are already in Australia.
