A Sun halo in the sky of Ethiopia on April 7, 2022.

This Thursday mid-day the sun was inscribed with a circular rainbow and diffused light. This optical phenomenon is caused by the ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere interacting with the sunlight. The ice clouds are suspended in the cirrus or cirrostratus clouds in the upper troposphere (5–10 km). As the light passes through the ice crystal it undergoes refraction and reflection causing a white and sometimes rainbow-colored ring around the sun.
There are several kinds of halo, the one that happened recently is a Circular halo or 22° halo, while the other types include Lightning Pilar and Sun Dogs.
