After World War II, the US Air Force wanted to construct a versatile bomber. They required an aircraft capable of carrying nuclear bombs to deter adversaries such as the Soviet Union or drop regular bombs in places threatened by communism. However, transforming this vision into reality posed substantial challenges.

The B-52's story began 1946 with the Model 462 prototype, eventually becoming the B-52A by 1952. This transformation showcased the innovativeness of American engineers. Initially resembling a larger version of the B-29 with six engines, it swiftly transitioned to a sleeker design with delta-swept wings, blending jet and propeller engine elements.

As the design evolved, so did the B-52's appearance. From a traditional layout with propeller engines to the addition of a bubble cockpit resembling a fighter jet, each step brought the bomber closer to its iconic form—the B-52A.
