Back in the year 1869 at the earl of Dudley's nine Locks pit in Brierly hill there was a terrible accident in which thirteen miners were trapped underground for a week they had to resort to drastic measures to survive like eating the leather on there shoes and candles they had with them leaving them in total darkness it was one of great Britains worst pit disasters here we take a look at the history of that terrible time we also visit the place of were it all happened and take a tour of the nine locks and how they look today
