In this week’s video, I show you how to make a custom base plate for your router. Although you can buy standard base plates, there are a lot of cases where you want to make a custom base plate to handle guide templates or for special jigs and fittings. I use 1/4 inch melamine which serves as a durable easy-glide surface and is the perfect material for this purpose. Alternately, you can use plexiglass but it tends to be more expensive.
