King Hans Dhwaj of Champakpuri was a very pious person, a protector of his subjects, a brave warrior and a devotee of lord. It was the specialty of his kingdom that all the men of the royal family and the subjects followed the vow of having only one wife. When the horse of the Ashwamedha Yagya of the Pandavas reached near Chapakpuri, Maharaj Hans Dhwaj thought. I have grown old but till now my eyes have not been able to see Shri Krishna. Now, on the pretext of stopping this horse, I will go to the battlefield and see Lord Purushottam.
To protect the horse, the holder of Gandiva- Arjun, Pradyumna etc. were walking behind with the great warriors. Everyone knew this but the king had to see charioteer Shri Krishna . The horse was caught and tied. With the orders of Rajguru Shankh and Likhit, it was announced that all the warriors should be present in the battlefield by the time, those who do not reach on time will be thrown into a pan of boiling oil. King Hans Dhwaj had five sons. Sabal, Surat, Sam, Sudarshan and Sudhanva. The young prince went to his mother to seek her permission. The brave mother embraced her son and ordered him. Son, if you can defeat Arjuna in the war, then Sri Krishna wearing the peacock crown will definitely come to protect Partha. Do not dis respect your mother's breast milk .One who dies in the war in front of Shri Krishna does not die but liberates his 21 generations. If you die a martyr in front of Purushottam while fighting in the war, then I will be truly happy.
Sudhanva accepted his mother's order. His chaste wife Prabhavati was standing at the door with a plate of worship ready to perform her husband's aarti. She worshipped her husband and prayed, "O my dear husband, you are going to fight with Arjun. I want a son to offer you last rites when you leave." He tried to convince his wife in many ways, but finally Prabhavati won. He could not refuse the justified prayer of a chaste woman. After
doing his duty sudhanva takes bath and came out of the kingdomto go to the battlefield. On the other hand, when Sudhanva did not come to the battlefield, king sent his minister to see where he was. The minister told him that he was on his way. Then the king got angry and said,oh sudhanva "You are a big fool. If salvation was possible only by having a son, then all dogs and cats would have gone to heaven. Shame on your religion and thoughts. Even after hearing the name of Shri Krishna Chandra, your mind got under the influence of lust. It is better to kill such a lustful son who is averse to lord krishna by boiling him in oil." The king sent a messenger to the priest for the arrangement. He told the messenger that when there was only one order for everyone then why was there a need to ask about the arrangements. On receiving the news from the messenger, the king ordered the minister to put Sudhanva in the boiling oil. Sudhanva put a Tulsi garland around his neck and prayed to God with folded hands. Oh Govinda, Oh Mukunda, I have no fear of dying. I had come to see your lotus feet only to give up my body, but could not see you. I am sad about this. After praying like this, calling out the names of lord like Oh Govind, Oh Krishna etc., Sudhanva jumped into the boiling oil.
Sudhanva was not aware of his body. He was engrossed in calling Shri Krishna and taking his name. But the onlookers were surprised. Not even a single hair of his body was burnt. Seeing this, both the priests of King Hansdhwaj came there together. The faithless logical priest, Shankh suspected that there must be some trickery in this. How can Sudhanva survive in hot oil. To test the oil, he put a coconut in the pan. The coconut broke as soon as it was put in the oil. It broke into two pieces and bounced and hit the heads of Shankh and Likhit with force. Now they realized the importance of a devotee of lord and realized their Vaishnav apradha. They said, shame on me. I doubted a true devotee of lord. Having resolved to do penance and give up his life, the priest Shankh jumped into the oil pan but due to the effect of Sudhanva, the oil became cold for him also. The sage embraced Sudhanva. He said, “You are blessed of prince. Even though I am a Brahmin and have studied the scriptures, I am not an ascetic. I am a fool. The wise and learned person is the one who meditates on Lord Shri Krishna. This wretched body of mine has become pure today by your touch. Now you come out of this oil and fight with the greatest archer Arjun, whose charioteer is Lord krishna ,the lord of the three worlds. Hearing this from the sage, Sudhanva came out of the pan and became the army leader by the order of his father. He fought with Arjuna's army. Arjuna was in front.
