Join us to learn about ongoing and future exploration opportunities in the East Venezuela - Trinidad & Tobago - Barbados - Guyana - Suriname region focusing on petroleum systems. Andrew Pepper, Director, This is Petroleum Systems LLC and Adjunct Professor, University of Houston, will highlight how limited data accessibility and misconceptions about the industry have created challenges in understanding the region's geology.

In East Venezuela, the focus is on the Orinoco Heavy Oil Belt and the source rocks in the Querecual and San Antonio formations. Trinidad's Naparima Hill porcellanitic source rock will be a point of discussion, with emphasis on the importance of the older Gautier facies as the main source rock. Exploration insights from Barbados and the transition from oil to gas trends in Trinidad are also provided.

In Guyana and Suriname, we’ll explore the potential of the 'Liza Trend' and challenges in the outboard deep-water basin. Further, we will analyze compositional variations and the presence of gas-condensate in the Suriname Block 58. The prospectivity of the Suriname shelf compared to Guyana is highlighted, along with predictions for future exploration.
Finally, we’ll look ahead at potential markets for biogenic gas plays and identifying gaps in public data between Venezuela and Guyana. Plus, the significant gas and mixed oil-gas discoveries in southern deep-water Guyana and Suriname, with predictions for future shelf plays.

Andrew Pepper began his career with BP in 1981 as a Geologist in international exploration. Given the opportunity to work in BP’s Geochemistry Research Lab in the late 80’s, he went on to devise models of petroleum formation that are now industry standards. As a Petroleum Systems Analyst, Andy broadened his worldwide experience and reach, culminating in a role in BP’s highly successful Gulf of Mexico sub-salt exploration program.
