Researcher Maringmei Makuning Kabui on the genesis of Mera Houchongba:
M. Makuning Kabui have done research on Manipur culture for more than 12 years. As recognition of his dedication and effort, the titular King of Manipur Sanajaoba Leishemba presented the Royal Highest award Khamen chatpa/ Kamu chappa during the Mera Houchongba Celebration this year.
Mera Houchongba, an annual celebration held to foster and consolidate relations among the hills and valley of Manipur was observed on Saturday. The main function was held at the Sana Konung shanglen, Imphal. The celebration is held every year on the full moon (thanil) of Mera month and reminds all sections of people have been living in peace and harmony since the beginning of this land. The function of freely mixing up and exchanging simple gifts and other simple local items will go a long way in cementing brotherly relations.
During the celebration, vegetables, fruits and other eatables were distributed and exchanged among hill and valley people.
