With spring coming, it’s time to think about what nesting boxes you are going to put up. I recently got a Kestrel box but I am waiting for the ground to thaw a bit more because I think I will pole-mount it instead of mounting it on a tree. We have so many predators in the area, I’m afraid for the chicks!

Dr. Bird answers a question about why Cardinals don’t puff up as much as other birds when it gets cold and he’s back again on Brome Bird Book talking about a new study that suggests Great Bustards self-medicate.

Back to the garden: if you are considering adding more trees, please take a bit more time and find trees that are native to your area. If you’re in Canada, check out this app: https://bit.ly/42ODJcW in the USA: https://bit.ly/3FYmj3R

And ‘B’ is for Baltimore Oriole: get your oranges and grape jelly ready for them (suet, too)! Lynn Alley, a contributor from Florida, has very generously shared some pictures of a male Baltimore Oriole at her Hummingbird feeder!
