Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Emergency Coordinator Marie-Aure Perreaut Revial led a medical team into Gaza in November and December 2023. They witnessed first-hand the “systematic destruction of health care in Gaza,” she said, and were continually exposed to scenes that no one should ever have to experience.

“[My colleagues] are beyond exhausted at this point. They come to the hospitals, they see horrific scenes. They see children really badly burned, badly injured, their entire faces burned, eyes are gone, babies with no legs anymore that you need to amputate. The weight that we put on the health care providers in Gaza, it's not something anybody can ever cope with. The mental health trauma of what is going on now in Gaza is beyond words."
