Mastering scales is essential to developing a strong technique on the saxophone. The exercises in this video run through the full range Ab Major scale in different rhythms - quarter, eighth, and 16th notes (crotchets, quavers, and semi-quavers). Exercises 1-4 are made up of 4-note cells that each contain 2 pitches (Ab,Bb,Ab,Bb, for example). The order/direction of the notes is different in each of the 4 exercises - the cell could be either Ab,Bb,Ab,Bb or Bb,Ab,Bb,Ab. Working on these kinds of variations can help increase familiarity and proficiency in a key and they're also helpful for finding weak spots within a scale.
The examples in this video are played at 60bpm but are meant to be worked on through a range of tempos - 60-160bpm.
