Sem Chum Datshi is a spicy Bhutanese stew of beans( it can be made dry or with little gravy) made with green and red chillies and cheese.Sem Chum means beans in Bhutanese. This same recipe if made with potatoes instead of beans is known as Kewa Datshi ( Kewa means potatoes in Bhutanese) If no potatoes or beans are used, and only chillies are used, then it is known as Ema Datshi. The cheese used is called Datshi, it is usually made in Bhutan at home from the curd of cow’s or yak’s milk. However, this cheese can be replaced with the locally available cheese.
