In 1985, 78,000 elderly citizens in the GDR are cared for by voluntary carers. In 1986, according to a resolution of the central committee of the Volkssolidarität, the number should be 80280. The article from "Prisma" uses the example of Halle-Süd to show how women and girls in particular are recruited for such voluntary work in caring for the elderly. Companies like VEB Gebäudeausrüstung Halle turn to employees, MPs to their constituency.
