Delaying the timing of your acceleration can be a deceptive tool as a ball handler. The delay freezes the defender & causes them to have a late reaction to your drive.

The delayed between is characterized by the timing of the crossover & the first step burst. The crossover is slowed down a bit & the first step is delayed until the ball is transferred to the other hand on the crossover… then it’s full speed ahead

Some other subtle things that make this move effective/deceptive are the ball handlers posture. A lot of players will start with an upright posture. Why?

This upright posture doesn’t make the defender feel threatened - now they’re more prone to relax & fall asleep for a second. When the ball handler is ready to go, the quickly drop their hips & posture to explode forward.
