The Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) lays down the procedure to be followed in criminal cases in India. The following are the stages in a criminal case under the CrPC:

Registration of FIR: A First Information Report (FIR) is registered at the police station if an offence is committed. The FIR contains the details of the offence, the names of the accused, and the complainant.

Investigation: The police investigate the offence, gather evidence, and arrest the accused if required.

Filing of Charge Sheet: If the police are satisfied that there is enough evidence to proceed against the accused, they file a charge sheet in court. The charge sheet contains the details of the offence, the names of the accused, and the evidence gathered during the investigation.

Framing of Charges: The court reads the charge sheet and frames charges against the accused. The accused is then required to plead guilty or not guilty.

Trial: The trial begins once the charges are framed. The prosecution presents evidence and witnesses to prove the guilt of the accused. The accused is given an opportunity to cross-examine the witnesses and present their own evidence.

Judgment: After the trial, the court gives its judgment. If the accused is found guilty, the court pronounces the sentence.

Appeal: If the accused is not satisfied with the judgment, they can file an appeal in a higher court.

Execution of Sentence: If the accused is convicted, the sentence is carried out according to the law.

It is important to note that the process may vary slightly depending on the specific case and the jurisdiction in which it is being heard.
