Vietnam Veteran 1st Sergeant Bernier explains how his interactions with Vietnamese villagers changed throughout the years. He explains that at first the interactions were friendly; villagers assisted both Americans and Vietcong. However, that changed as the war escalated and new instructions to search their homes were enacted.
