Atal Tunnel

Atal Tunnel (also known as Rohtang Tunnel) is a highway tunnel built under the Rohtang Pass in the eastern Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas on the Leh-Manali Highway in Himachal Pradesh, India. At a length of 9.02 km, it is the longest tunnel above 10,000 feet (3,048 m) in the world and is named after former Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The tunnel is at an elevation of 3,100 metres (10,171 ft) whereas the Rohtang Pass is at an elevation of 3,978 metres (13,051 ft).

Anjani Mahadev Mandir is a small temple of Lord Shiva in Manali. This temple has a Shivalinga formed with ice. Hundreds of devotees and tourists visit the temple to see this magic of nature.

A scenic trek surrounded by a snowy landscape leads to the temple. You walk over stones, cross a river and take a few steps to see Anjani Mahadev Temple at Manali. You can also go there on a horse or an ATV.

The ice Shivalinga is visible only during the winter months when the temperature drops to near freezing point. It’s an old rock that has taken the present shape due to the water falling on it.

Where is Anjani Mahadev Mandir in Manali?
Anjani Mahadev Temple Manali is in Burwa village in Solang valley. It’s about 14 km away from Manali. You need to trek about 2 km from the main road to reach the temple. Horses and ATVs, too, are available for hire.

History of Anjani Mahadev Mandir Manali
Anjani Mahadev Temple story is attributed to Anjani, the mother of Hindu God Hanuman. She prayed to Lord Shiva and meditated for his darshan at this very place. Pleased by her penance, Lord Shiva gave her darshan.
