Another Gökova Bicycle Tour has come and gone. At first, I was indecisive about whether to participate or not. Given that I have been cycling the same routes with the same organization for 10 years, it might seem that I could be bored, but that’s not the case.

With the tour, I have aged as well. The first year I participated, Çınar, who was 11 years old and cycled with us around the bay, is now in university. A lot has changed. New ailments that come with age (like high blood pressure) have instilled a sense of fear within me. Because of this, I barely rode my bike this year. I realized I wasn't in my old form whenever I did ride. Maybe my bike and I were gradually parting ways.

If it weren't for this fear inside me, I would definitely participate in this tour every year. Because every season, I ride in a different light, in a distinct warmth, and with unique rains and winds. My wheels always tread on a different path. I meet new people and build friendships that last for years. It’s impossible for me to get bored.

Despite my inner worries, I loaded my bike into my car and drove to Muğla, the starting point. After just the first stage, I was again reminded of why cycling is so special to me and how it has become an important part of my culture. It became a great motivation for me to complete the tour. I finished the tour with the same energy, and I did it without any fear. I’m very happy.
