कोथळीगड हा भारताच्या महाराष्ट्र राज्यातील एक किल्ला आहे. मुंबई-पुणे रेल्वे मार्गावरील नेरळ्च्या पूर्वेला १९ किलोमीटरवर आणि कर्जतच्या ईशान्येला २२ किलोमीटरवर असलेल्या एका सुळक्यावर हा किल्ल्ला आहे. किल्ला छोटा आहे पण पायथ्याची गुहा मोठी आहे. गुहेचे खांब मूळ पाषाणातून कोरून काढले आहेत. गुहेमधून एक आडवातिडवा कोरून काढलेला दगडी जिना किल्ल्याच्या माथ्यावर जातो. वर जागा अगदी थोडी आहे. हा किल्ला ज्या डोंगरावर आहे तो कर्जतच्या मूळ डोंगररांगेपासून तुटून वेगळा पडलेला आहे. किल्ल्याच्या माथ्यावर मजबुतीसाठी नरसाळ्याच्या आकारात बांधकाम केलेले आहे. या नरसाळ्यालाच कोथळीगड म्हणतात. किल्ल्याचा दरवाजा अजून उभा आहे. आत पाण्याची दोन टाकी आहेत.


पेठ गावाच्या निकटतेमुळे याला ’पेठचा किल्ला’ असेही म्हणतात. हा किल्ला ’कोथळा’ या नावानेही ओळखतात. कर्जतहून खेड-कडूसकडे जाणाऱ्या कोलिंबा व सावळ घाटावर लक्ष ठेवण्यासाठी याचा उपयोग केला जायचा. माथेरानचे पठार, चंदेरी, प्रबळगड, नागफणी, सिधगड, माणिकगड, पिशाळगड असा प्रचंड मुलुख या गडावरून दिसतो.


गडावर जाण्याच्या वाटा :
पेठ गावातून पाऊलवाटेने वर चढत गेल्यावर कातळकड्याच्या पोटात खोदलेल्या गुहा थेट सामोऱ्या येतात. प्रथम देवीची गुहा व पाण्याचे टाके लागते नंतर आकाराने मोठी असलेली भैरोबाची गुहा लागते भैरोबाच्या गुहेत छताला आधार देणारे कोरीवकाम असलेले स्तंभ आहेत. गुहेत ४-५ ठिकाणी गोल खळगे आहेत आणि काही जुने तोफेचे गोळे आहेत. गुहेजवळच किल्ल्याच्या सुळक्यावर जाण्यासाठी एका ऊर्ध्वमुखी भुयारात पायऱ्या खोदल्या आहेत.


कर्जतहून कोठिंबे किंवा आंबिवली गावी बसने जाता येते. येथून साधारणतः ४-५ तासात गडावर पोहचता येते.


रायगड तालुक्यातल्या कर्जत(पूर्व) रेल्वे स्टेशनपासून कशेळेमार्गे जाणारी आंबिवले बस आहे. आंबिवलीजवळ एक छान तळे आहे. तिथून चढ लागतो. तीन किलोमीटरवर पेठ गाव लागते. कोठळीगडाचा हा पायथा आहे. थोड्याशा बिकट चढणीने किल्ल्याच्या माथ्यावर पोचता येते. खाली तळात काही पंचरसी तोफा पडल्या आहेत. या किल्ल्याच्या लहान आकारावरून असे वाटते की किल्ल्याचा उपयोग केवळ एक चौकी म्हणून होत असावा. पेठच्या पठारावरून पूर्वेला वांदरे खिंडीत जाण्यास पायवाट आहे.

Kothaligad (also called Kotligad/ Kothligad/Peth) is a small fort (3100 ft) situated to the east of Karjat near Karjat-Murbad Road in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is a famous trek in the Karjat area, because of its small height and easy climbing. It is also known as the Fort of Peth because of its vicinity to Peth village at its base.


History :
The cave and the temple carvings date back to the 13th century. Not much is known about the history until the 18th century. In 1684 Aurangjeb sent Abdul Kadir and AlaiBiradkar to capture this fort. After a small skirmish, the fort was captured by Abdul Kadir. Aurangjeb honored Abdul Kadir and renamed this fort as Miftah-ul-Fateh (Key to success). Many attempts were made later to win this fort by the Maratha Army, but they were not successful. In 1716, this cave was captured by the British. On 2 November 1817, it was recaptured by the Marathas under the leadership of Bapurao who was general of Bajirao Peshwa. The fort was recaptured by the British on 30 December 1817, by Captain Brooks. The British had the fort till 1862 as an outpost for vigilance on the surrounding valley and the hills all around it.

The locals say that this is not actually a fort but a sort of lighthouse from where the directions were given to know the advancements of the enemy. In fact, it can be called a watch tower to keep a vigil on the Mawal area in the greater province of the Maratha.
