Eddie Murphy has commented on why it has taken so long for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F to get made. It all comes down to the story, as Murphy says this was what made the original film of the franchise such a hit.

To promote the fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie coming to Netflix on July 3, Murphy spoke about the sequel's development with CBR's Kevin Polowy. While it's been three decades since Beverly Hills Cop III was released in 1994, Murphy observed how effortless it was to slip back into the role of Axel Foley. The actor remarked how Beverly Hills Cop has never really gone away, as it's maintained a fan following over the past 30 years, making it easier to reprise his franchise role.
