Often overshadowed by the wild-looking 190E Evo 2, the original Mercedes 190E Evo was launched in 1989 at the Geneva Motorshow with one goal, to be a homologation car that would allow them to beat BMW E30 M3 on track at touring car championships such as the German DTM.

It featured a 2.5L 16v inline 4 engine, 4 corner hydraulic suspension, a dogleg gearbox, and like the BMW M3 E30 it only came in left-hand drive. In this video, we drive this lovely W201 Mercedes 190E Evo thanks to the team at Classic And Exotic and Custodian Classics and also get to hear what the Mercedes 190E Evo sounds like.

Thank you also to   / jmcdmedia   for helping me film this iconic 1980s car.
