Friday Harbor on San Juan Island, the busiest of the San Juan Island chain north of Seattle, is a popular destination, especially in the summer. A flight from the Seattle area in a typical piston single is only about 45 minutes, and you can easily walk into town and the harbor from the airport.

The Port of Friday Harbor publishes a brochure that describes the VFR traffic patterns and noise-abatement procedures. You can find the PDF on the Port’s website: https://www.portfridayharbor.org/airp...

Similar brochures are available at the corresponding websites for Orcas Island and other airports in the area.

The wind was from the north on this clear summer day, so after descending along my route from the east, I joined right traffic to land on runway 34 at KFHR. Transient parking is in the northeast corner of the airport. Note the one-way taxi routes to and from the transient ramp.
