I'm new to kayaks and picked up this Lifetime Yukon 116 last year also known as the Lifetime Teton Pro 116 depending on where you purchase.

Living in Minnesota, the snow arrived so I've spent the past few months in the basement modifying my kayak. I used a Newport Vessels 36 pound thrust trolling motor with a 40 Amp Hour Lithium battery. This saved me a lot of weight and I'm hoping to get about an hour and a half at full thrust.

Access to the basement is limited so I designed everything to be detach as needed. I usually leave my kayak at dock during the spring and summer so being able to detach the trolling motor, throttle control and chair was also important. When in dock, the battery staying in the hull and charges from a solar panel that I plug into the outlet I added.

The solar charge control unit that came with my solar panel is the one you see in the video. It does NOT support a lithium battery. It seems to work but everything I've read and watched says don't do it. I discovered this just a few days ago and have one on order ($20). It should be an easy swap.

I will be posting a followup video as soon as the lake melts and I can give it a full test. ;) I'm also happy to go into further detail about any of the kayak modifications covered in this video.
