The story of the 'Death Match' between Ukrainian outfit FC Start and German military team 'Flakelf' was the inspiration for the 1981 movie Escape to Victory, along with a handful of other films and books.

The story claims that a Ukrainian team made up of mostly ex Dynamo Kyiv players were told they had to lose a game whilst under German occupation, but refused.
