Today we will be doing an oil change on a 2005 Honda 919. This motorcycle has one of the easiest oil changes to perform. If you have ever changed a cars oil than this is a walk in the park. Even if you've never changed any vehicles oil before the canister style filter on the Honda 919 is the perfect platform to learn. No fairings to get in the way, no complicated internal filter, no horribly inconvenient placement of any parts. The oil drain plug and oil filter are out in the open. Heck if you were strong enough to loosen the drain bolt by hand this could be a zero tool oil change !

What you will need:
10w40 motorcycle oil roughly 4 quarts
K&N oil filter KN-204-1
17mm Socket for oil drain bolt
-M12x12mm aluminum washer (for oil drain plug)
ratchet
oil funnel
oil drain pan

Optional supplies:
12mm socket for horn removal
any oil filter wrench (to remove old filter ONLY)
short extension ratchet arm
Torque wrench

Torque specs:
18 foot pound = Oil drain bolt
20 foot pound = Oil Filter
** for this job wrenching to spec is not critical. The good ol rule of thumb "tighten until it seats and then 1/4" turn more" is good enough. You can do a lot of damage with over torquing on the oil pan. a cracked oil pan is not a good time. If you want to use a torque wrench be sure to use a quality wrench where the specs for this job fall in the mid range of the wrench.
