What is Eisa
In addition to its soulful performance, Eisa's appeal lies in the fact that youth associations in each region have taken over the techniques and have preserved their dance styles.
It is a dance that is performed on the last day of the Bon festival (Ukui) to send the spirits of ancestors to the other world, and is similar to the Bon festival dances outside the prefecture. It is one of the most important events in Okinawa, where ancestors are valued.
Eisa is danced in various places to send off ancestors, and in each region, youth associations of each district (character) parade along the roads in municipalities and districts while performing Eisa.
