Put annotations on for info!
Timelapse driving on Highway 401 eastbound through Toronto & area. I've always wanted to record this behemoth of a freeway in it's entirety, and decided Easter Sunday was the best day to do it as traffic/truck volumes are lower.
--Nighttime in the other direction:    • Highway 401 through Toronto at Night

My camera overheated twice during the recording (something that has never happened to me before), but I could still snap pics during the cooldown. After the second overheat I angled my air vents toward the camera thinking it would help. It did. Sorry about the lost footage!

The video begins at Trafalgar Road, just west of the Highway 407 Express Toll Route interchange in Mississauga and ends at Brock Street in Whitby, which is just east of a future interchange with a new freeway that will link to Highway 407 East.

The first part of the video is sped up 16x as it was slow going and generally uninteresting compared to the rest of the freeway. The remainder is sped up 4x.

Music: Time by Pachana Boys

Camera: Nikon D3200 with 35mm prime lens.
-If it looks like I am getting really close to cars in front of me, the lens is a bit zoomed in and gives you that illusion.

I have also added a lane counter in the annotations. It is not 100% accurate given all the lane additions/drops that can happen in a short space, but it gives a general idea about the girth if the road (if you didn't already realize it lol).

Here's an infographic comparing the 401's volumes to other busy roads:
