We recently took a couple days and traveled to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia for some Salmon fishing on the beautiful Margaree River. I have previously fished this river for many days without hooking a Salmon, however the beauty of the Margaree Valley and Cape Breton in general will always keep me coming back! The bad luck continued once we arrived, the stores that sold Salmon licenses were sold out and we faced another forty-five minute drive up river to the Big Intervale Inn to purchase them...this area represents the highest point on the river for Salmon pools. After the Salmon go past here it is a sanctuary with no fishing allowed. Ultimately bad luck has to turn to good luck.... We purchased our licenses and were wished 'tight lines' from the owner of the Inn. From there we drove a hundred meters up the road to Ward's Rock pool, geared up, waded across the river and started working our way down the pool. On my first fly down through I finally broke the 'spell' and made contact with my first Margaree Salmon!
