We have waited a long time for this to show you - now it has finally happened: We visited Meiringen Air Base.
Meiringen Air Base is an active military airfield of the Swiss Air Force in Unterbach west of Meiringen.

Meiringen Air Base is important for the Swiss Air Force. It is one of the three remaining jet airfields in Switzerland after 2016 with the elimination of the Sion jet airfield, along with Payerne and Emmen. It is also the only airfield where the aircraft cavern is still in use during ongoing operations. The arrestor cable systems for F/A-18s and F-5s at both ends of the runway can be retracted flush into the runway so that they do not pose an obstacle to small aircraft.

The military airfield attracts many guests to the tourist region. The annual Axalp air demonstration in autumn on the Axalp is well known. This event is attended by around 10000 guests from all over Europe over two days. In addition, interested visitors can watch the take-offs and landings of the jets in the immediate vicinity or get to know the military airbase on regular visitor days. The runway 10/28 is 2008 meters long and 40 meters wide
