地球は生きている惑星です。
そして、その多種多彩な変化の中心にはプレートの運動があります。
しかし、時を昔に戻すと
当時の地球は、今とは全く違いました。

18億年前から8億年前まで
なんと10億年の間、氷河期が全くなく
特に、カンブリア爆発のような
生命の輝かしい進化も起こらなかったのです。

そのため、科学者たちは、この期間のことを
「退屈な10億年(Boring billion)」または
地球史上、最も退屈だった時期（Dullest time）と呼びます。
