We held our very first edition of the BIHC Culinary Championship to allow students to showcase their culinary skills for the chance to win exciting prizes and be included in the newly-established BIHC Culinary Plaque of Fame.
The Culinary Championship involved 12 participants, who would be taken through their paces, where they were provided with a market-list of ingredients comprising only 1 protein- chicken and other "supporting" ingredients. The dry goods store was also be made available. Participants then had to develop a 3-course menu of 1 starter, 1 main course and 1 dessert and be allocated a total of 4 hours and 30 minutes to plan and execute the dishes. BIHC staff and faculty formed a judging panel and critiqued each dish through a "blind-taste", taking menu balance, organization, HACCP-adherence and final product, including taste and presentation into account.
The participants were:
Cedric Odhiambo
Mumina Arbelle
Marline Orwa
Yvonne Njema
Mohamed Ali
Darius Ayanga
Janet Mbogo
Swabra Idd
Yvonne Njema
Josinee Karemera
Mesha Tarun
Esther Odhier
Michelle Osedo
Cassey Pepela
Betha Wanjiku
It was an incredible competition, where all participants executed exceptional final dishes but there could only be one winner. CONGRATULATIONS to Josinee Karemera for winning the very first Culinary Championship!
We look forward to the next edition of this exciting competition!
