JustAnswer Customer: I have a GE 30" gas range, model 968sep3ss.
JustAnswer Customer: When it was installed it was modified to be used for propane fuel.
JustAnswer Customer: The problem is that none of the burners will go low enough and I'm constantly moving items from large burners to smaller ones because I can't get the flame low enough to not burn food.
JustAnswer Customer: There is no way that I can set any burner to simmer.
JustAnswer Customer: The GE service people near us told me that it could not be adjusted any more but having paid a considerable amount for this range, I'm having trouble accepting this.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Hello my name is XXXXX XXXXX you for choosing our service.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Remove a surface burner knob, do you see a screw at about the 6 o'clock position?
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Thanks, Barry
JustAnswer Customer: ok, I removed the knob
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Look around under that knob you should see a screw there Lauran on the valve at about 6 o'clock.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Don't do anything if you find it just take your time and see if you can locate it.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Thanks, Barry
JustAnswer Customer: yes, i found it.
JustAnswer Customer: it's a little brass screw
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Good, give me a few minutes to type out how it needs to be adjusted.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Thanks, Barry
JustAnswer Customer: ok
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: What you need to do is turn any 2 other burners on medium.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Then set the one you are adjusting to low and remove the knob.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Turn that screw a little either direction until the flame goes low.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Repeat for each burner exactly the same way until all are the same.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Your not going to get it the first time but each time you repeat you get closer.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Once you think you have all of the burners at the level which you would consider low turn each burner from high to low quickly.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: If it goes out its too low, raise the flame a little.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: When you finish that test and all burners do not go out put all burners on low.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Open and close the oven door fast.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: If a burner goes out its too low, raise it until it passes that test as well.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Thats it you will be done.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: If you need to reply use the reply to expert link.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Thanks, Barry
JustAnswer Customer: That was great.
JustAnswer Customer: I was able to turn the burners down adequately but the flame is uneven with higher flame in 1/3 to 1/2 of the burner
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Is the flame nice and blue?
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: And is that happening at the low medium and high setting?
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Thanks, Barry
JustAnswer Customer: It's ok on the left side burners but the right side burners have 1/3 to 1/2 of the flame with yellow tips and higher flame
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Give me a few minutes Lauran.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: Barry
JustAnswer Customer: OK
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: The instructions are a bit more complicated for the right side.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: This is a different problem I will paste them below.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: What is wrong is the burner alignment is out on the side that the flames are uneven.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: If you can follow them great.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: If not you should print this out for the people who will be doing the adjusting.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: The symptoms you are describing are right below and how to fix it.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For proper operation of the burner, alignment of the orifice holder, orifice and air/gas mixer tube must be correct.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: The alignment can be checked by placing 7mm or 9/32" nutdriver over the orifice to exaggerate the angle.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: The nutdriver should stand straight, indicating the alignment and gas injection angle is correct.
Barry G.: Home Appliance Technician: A slight downward pressure may be necessary to seat the nutdriver over the “Orifice Retainer Ring”.
