Produced by the Calvin Company as a promo for Wheaties cereal and Wilson Sporting Goods, “Football for Millions” is a color 1950s educational sport film that strives to educate football audiences on the technical elements of the game. Presented by the National Federation of State High School Athletic Associations, the film features two short commercials by its sponsors (Wilson Sporting Goods Co. and Wheaties “Breakfast of Champions”). Composed of clips of the Redlands High School football team in Redlands, California playing a game at the University of Redlands, the narrator uses these clips to illuminate the rules and types of play in football to the audience. The short film argues that while football is an all-American pastime enjoyed by many, few actually know the games’ rules and regulations.
