Unlike books and movies, video games have a special opportunity to educate people on what it is like to live with mental illness. The interactivity of the medium allows us to live vicariously in a much more intense and enlightening way. Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice puts us directly inside the brain of the titular protagonist, and presents the realities of mental illness with frightening accuracy. Even if you don't live with psychosis, like the character of Senua does, you can still appreciate Senua's torturous state of mind if you have some form of mental illness. I certainly did.
