Author Douglas Murray has reacted to Tim Walz’s “weird” debate performance and highlighted the Democratic vice-presidential nominee’s blunder about China.

Mr Walz claimed he "misspoke" when he falsely claimed he was in Hong Kong during the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre.

“Even the biased moderators did end up after about what felt like 48 hours of this waffle did end up saying, ‘yeah, but what about your claim that you were in Tiananmen Square?’” Mr Murray told Sky News host Rita Panahi.

“And he did that great Clintonism, I think a word that wasn't in the language until the Clintons, which was ‘I misspoke’.

“I suppose it could happen to any of us. I sometimes claim to have been at the D-Day landings. I often claim to have been there waving the Titanic off as she set sail. You know it is easily done.”
