Transform Health and its coalition partners FIND, Fondation Botnar, PATH, PMNCH, PharmAccess and UNITE hosted a side event on “Strengthening the governance of health data”, in Geneva during the 75th World Health Assembly.
Technology is rapidly changing the world we live in. Health systems around the world are becoming increasingly digitalised. If done right, this creates a huge opportunity to strengthen the delivery, quality and equity of health services. With this has also come a vast increase in the amount of health data that is collected and used. This has sparked the need for stronger and more equitable governance of that data to maximise public value whilst protecting individual rights.
The side event brought together diverse stakeholder perspectives on why we need stronger governance of health data - including a global health data governance framework - as well as national perspectives on what can be done to advance this agenda. The recently launched equity and human rights-based Health Data Governance Principles (endorsed by over 90 organisations) were presented during the event, which are a key step towards a global framework. #HealthDataPrinciples
